Did you ever wonder why the Red Light District has become so famous all over the world? Any idea what these red lights actually stand for? Do you know who commissioned Rembrandt to paint his famous painting the Nightwatch? Did you ever twist your tongue in expressions like “Vechten tegen de bierkaai”? What did Amsterdam look like during the Middle Ages? Ever wondered what role the old Red Light District played in defending the city?
The VIP Watertaxi Amsterdam offers you a unique program. During a two-hour tour our experienced skipper and guide will take you off the beaten track and show you Amsterdam from a different perspective!
At a prearranged time and place you will go on board one of our luxurious water taxis and are given a warm welcome, while enjoying one of our famous Dutch liquors from the even more famous Van Wees distillery.
During the first part of the tour, which will last for about one hour, you will quickly leave the ordinary roundtrip-boats behind you and explore some of the narrowest canals the city has to offer. Mind your heads, because some bridges are low indeed!
After the first hour of the tour we will take you on foot through the streets and alleys of the famous Red Light District. Accompanied by your guide you will explore the old cobbled streets, admire the ancient houses and walk past the oldest church in town – and don’t forget the oldest profession in the world: it’s being practised anywhere around you!
We will conclude our tour in style and have another drink on board, while sailing back to our point of departure. Cheers!
